Dr Linda Yuqian Wang

Dr. Linda (Yuqian) Wang is a mathematics education specialist at Durham University's School of Education (UK). She brings a unique perspective shaped by her extensive experience teaching secondary mathematics in both Shanghai and the United Kingdom. This cross-cultural teaching background has deeply informed her research, which focuses on curriculum design for upper primary and secondary mathematics, with particular emphasis on integrating Eastern and Western pedagogical approaches through variation theory and mathematics mastery.

As both a researcher and teacher educator, Dr. Wang is particularly passionate about advancing lesson planning as a cornerstone of professional development. She works closely with both practicing mathematics teachers and pre-service teachers, fostering collaborative environments where educators can share and refine their pedagogical approaches. Through this enrichment work, she facilitates dynamic exchanges of ideas that enhance teaching practices and student learning outcomes.

Jeremy Dawson

Jeremy has nearly 30 years of experience in mathematics education, spanning classroom teaching, senior leadership, consultancy, and professional development. He specialises in curriculum design, resource development, and enrichment, and has delivered bespoke sessions to over 10,000 students across the North-East, from KS2 through to KS5 and beyond.

A certified NCETM Professional Development Lead, Jeremy has been deeply involved in research-driven projects exploring innovative pedagogical approaches. His work focuses on play, problem-solving, and reasoning, ensuring that mathematics is engaging, accessible, and conceptually rich for learners of all ages. He is also an experienced coach, supporting teachers and school leaders in developing effective classroom strategies and impactful professional learning.

Glyn Evans

Glyn Evans

Glyn has over 35 years of experience in mathematics education, spanning classroom teaching, departmental leadership, and professional development. As a subject leader for over a decade, he guided his department to outstanding progress and attainment results, placing them among the top 4% nationally. He holds SLE (Specialist Leader of Education) status and has worked extensively in supporting other departments to improve their mathematics provision.

In recent years, Glyn has served as a regional lead for the DfE-funded Advanced Maths Support Programme, delivering high-quality professional development for teachers and engaging enrichment sessions for students. He has played a key role in developing widely used transition resources from GCSE to A Level and has been a regular contributor to national online PD sessions for AQA’s Level 2 Certificate in Further Mathematics. Passionate about inspiring students, he also delivers careers talks and workshops for learners from Year 7 through to A Level and beyond.

Valerija Peles-Edwards

Valerija Peles-Edwards

Valerija has had a passion for mathematics since her primary school days in Croatia, where she regularly took part in regional maths competitions. Inspired by outstanding teachers, she developed both a love for the subject and a commitment to helping others enjoy and succeed in mathematics.

She brings nearly 20 years of teaching experience across a wide range of state schools and college settings, both in Croatia and in the North East of England, which has been her home for the past 17 years.

A particular highlight of her career was her seven years with the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme, where she worked as an Area Coordinator. In this role she supported schools across Sunderland and Teesside, while also collaborating with colleagues in Durham, Newcastle, Northumberland, and Tyneside.

Valerija’s mathematical interests are broad, but she has a particular enthusiasm for statistics and the insights that can be gained from the world of data. She continues to combine her love of mathematics with her extensive experience to support schools, teachers, and students across the region.
